At GenCon in Indianapolis, I'll be teaching a four-hour workshop on card game design. It's GenCon event WKS1120619, scheduled for Saturday, August 6th at 2:00 pm:
Card Game Design Workshop
An intensive, four-hour, hands-on look at the process of designing and publishing card games of all kinds. Workshop leader Jeff Tidball is an award-winning card game designer and former product development VP at Fantasy Flight Games. Expect visits from other designers and guests as well. Registration is very limited to give every participant lots of direct attention. Bring your ideas, bring your questions, and expect to learn!
This event is full; tickets sold out in the second day of pre-registration.
The goal for the workshop is to provide a small group of committed designers the opportunity to learn what they need to know to move their designs forward toward excellence, publication, or whatever goals they've chosen for themselves. If you're registered for the event and want to make sure that some particular facet of card game design or production is covered, drop me a line in advance and I'll do my best to make sure we talk about it.
After the the event, check back here to download some of the workshop materials and find live links to the websites, publishers, and service providers discussed.
If this GenCon workshop goes well—and there's no reason to expect it won't!–you can expect to set it at other conventions, and for GenCon 2012 to feature even more workshops on additional design topics.
Jeff Tidball is a writer and game designer.
He's the writer who takes a month off work to write a novella that gets him into the best film school in the country. He's the game designer who challenges himself to design a board game you play without a table and wins the Origins Vanguard Award for innovation. He's the guy you want on fourth down when there's a grenade in your foxhole. But don't take his word for it, poke around the Google search for yourself.
