Workaround, My Ass
So, I've got a really old version of Filemaker (2.1 — yes, I said really old) that I use for a really specific kind of game design project. Also, my database of film industry contacts is in a Filemaker database. (Which is a state of affairs I've been maning to rectify, but that's neither here nor there.)
I had been putting off re-installing Filemaker since my hard drive meltdown because I haven't needed to get at either of the aforementioend types of files, but today I did. And I discovered that you can't re-install Classic from a retail Tiger DVD. Which was fine; I've still got the 10.2.4 disc that came with the computer, and a 10.3 disc just in case.
But using those discs to re-install Classic turns out to be not so much with the working.
But then on Apple's website, I discover a that there's a workaround.
But then I discover that the workaround involves this:
"This workaround allows you to reinstall applications from the Mac OS X 10.2 Restore disc, but involves first erasing your Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger volume and then reinstalling Tiger later." (emphasis mine)Clearly, someone at Apple technical support has completely lost his freaking mind.
If anyone out there has a copy of Filemaker on CD that runs under OSX and would be willing to loan it to me so I can export the contents of the files I need to some other format, or would be willing to receive Filemaker files by e-mail and return comma-delimited text files, that would be outstanding. As always, it's myfirstname@thiswebpage'sdomain.com. (Or, you know, the human-parsed version of the foregoing.)
For those of you who didn't understand a word of all that, there are some newish pictures of Edward up at Flickr.
Update 4/5 @ 11am: Offers of file translation and CD loan have rained down in a great storm, so I'm good on this problem for the moment. Thanks, everyone!

I'll dig around for my FileMaker CD and a FedEx envelope, but in the meantime, the following might be an actual workaround to solve your problem.
Got an external firewire drive handy? In the past, I've been successful at installing Classic on an external drive and then just plugging it in when I need Classic. I haven't done this in a while, but it may be worth a try.
