Wife's Death Avenged? Check. Infant's Death Avenged? Check.

Just finished Max Payne. Overall, a good game, and one I enjoyed.

It was educational to come back to it from Halo. The Payne graphics and interface are ugly cousins to Master Chief's world, but I imagine a lot of that has to do with the difference between an Xbox and a Powerbook, a game controller and a keyboard/mouse.

One thing I really liked about May Payne was the graphic novel style presentation of most of the storytelling cut scenes. It's an innovative and smart approach, in my opinion. Full-motion, CG cut scenes in games can't compete with film — not even close — but games can present drawn panels every bit as good as the best comics.

I'm of two minds about the game's dialog. It was hard-boiled cheesy and way overdone, no two ways about it, and when it appeared textually in the comic panels I wanted to edit it on screen. But on the other hand, I appreciated that it was almost parody (straight-faced parody, but parody nonetheless) of the genre.

Next up: Ghost Recon and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3.
