Wesley Clark Fundraising: The first

Wesley Clark

Fundraising: The first item on Clark's webpage touts his fundraising prowess. I'm not really impressed with that, even if he has raised a lot of money in only two weeks.

Civilian Reserve: Clark proposes the creation of a "Civilian Reserve," a pool of skilled Americans willing to volunteer in their areas of expertise (to help fight forest fires, for example, or do nation-building work). The underlying ideaóthat times of trial call for for an active citizenry willing to sacrificeóis a good one. The idea of civilian sacrifice, particularly, has been absent from the "go shopping or the terrorists have already won" mentality of the Bush camp. Would this specific proposal work? Maybe.

100 Year Vision: Clark talks about a vision for the long-term future of the country in relatively concrete terms, something you don't hear from a lot of politicians. Particularly encouraging to me was his statement that "the Clark administration will institute a culture of transparency and accountability, in which we set the world standard for good government. . . ." Sounds good to me, especially compared to the lack of such in the Bush White House.

Distressingly, I could not find a section of Clark's site devoted to his opinions on a wide variety of issues. I could not find anything about his stances on health care and trade, both of which are important to me. It seems doubtful Clark's going to be my guy. Anyone have any strong feelings about him one way or the other?
