Tomo Software
Earlier today I accepted a job as Assistant Game Designer at Tomo Software, a startup creating a new breed of mobile phone games. More on what exactly this means when they unveil their new product publicly.
Almost all things about this job are great: the people, the project (from what I know of it at this point), the atmosphere at the office, and the pay. The only thing that's not good is the location near LAX. In the interview they suggested it would be possible for me to time-shift my workday like I did at Decipher, in order to avoid rush hour. Even so, it will almost certainly be two hours a day in the car.
I begin on August 2nd.

And WooT! again for gainful employment!

Congrats! Looking forward to hearing more about it. :)
Huzzah!
Congratulations! Sounds like fun. Too bad that sweet unemployment ride had to be cut short, though...
W00T! :D
sweetness!
Wow, that's great Jeff! Congratulations.
Congrats on the new job! Hope it'll be fun and fulfilling for you.
You get no sympathy from me on the commute, however. My wife and I spend 2.5 to 3 hours a day in the car getting to and from work. The wonders of working near DC.
You are da man. No, seriously, you da man!
Congrats, Jeff!
Will you still be attending Gen Con?
That sucks about the commute - I am stupidly lucky with an 8-minute commute here in central Texas.
Thanks for all the congratulation notes, noises, and goat-throwing, everyone!
Plane tickets are already purchased, so I will still be at GenCon, happily burning up vacation days I have yet to earn.
Jim: My condolences on your commute.
Jason: Eight minutes will barely get me to the freeway on-ramp.
With my eerie powers, I see books-on-tape in your future.
Hope the job is as cool as it sounds!
congrats
:)
I second the comment about books on tape (or CD). One of our guests at the retreat center even mentioned that you can now download books to your palm pilot (not that I recommend that mode for a driving commute). Still, it can't be all bad to force a writer to listen to the products of other good writers for a couple of hours each day. Congrats and very best wishes!
