Tivo Update: I did eventually

Tivo Update: I did eventually get off the phone with Sony, though it was not pretty and ate up the better part of two hours. I did, however, eventually get the work order number I needed. Off it goes to the Tivo fix-it center in Pennsylvania.

Life without Tivo is both a blessing and curse. It is a curse in all of the obvious ways. We have to watch the shows we want to see when they're actually on. We can't pause live TV. We have to wait for a commercial to get up and make a sandwich. (The lack of commercials on HBO programming actually becomes a difficulty when your Tivo is broken. When are you supposed to pee?) On the other hand, a broken Tivo is a blessing because it is harder to watch programs of marginal interest and therefore less time is wasted in front of the tube.

On the balance, though, the benefits of Tivo still far outweigh the disadvantages. It remains the best three hundred bucks I've spent literally in years. If you watch much TV you should have one, and no quibbling, Mister.
