Thanksgiving Visitors

Tomorrow, you are aware, is Thanksgiving in the United States. Visiting us in Los Angeles for the occasion are my parents, brother and sister-in law, Grandma, Grandma's college roommate (yes, seriously), sister-in-law's mother, and our neighbor Regina. On of my aunts arrives on Friday, to visit until Tuesday.

Such magnitude of holiday hosting is new to us. We've had parents and siblings visit over holidays, but this is a first for such a large group all at once, and a first for feeding them all a gigantic dinner. I have managed to avoid most of the stress of said hosting largely because Stacey is doing all the Thanksgiving dinner-related heavy lifting. Which is a pretty good deal for me, when it comes right down to it.

Those of you who have been holding your breath and waiting for the other shoe to drop may breathe freely now, for even in the midst of this text about Thanksgiving, there will be no itemized listing of thankfulnesses, as is common practice in much writing about the holiday, season, meal, and so forth. Predictibily and schmaltz are egregious enough sins individually; in combination they're the textual equivalent of a remake of It's a Wonderful Life, starring George Clooney. All of this is simply to say that I shall indeed be thankful, but I think I will do it privately.

Happy Thanksgiving, all.
