Story Idea

The wikipedia entry for neutron bombs includes the following paragraph, which is clearly the seed for a really great story.

One significant drawback of the [neutron bomb] is that not all targeted troops will die or be incapacitated immediately. After a brief bout of nausea, many of those hit with about 5-50 Sv of radiation will experience a temporary recovery lasting days to weeks. It has been suggested that these troops, knowing that they are likely to die soon anyway, may fight fanatically, without the usual regard for their own well-being.
I'm full up on things to write for roughly a decade, so I'm just throwing that out there for the rest of all y'all.

Actually I think they actually did that as an episode of "Who's the Boss?"

Seems like, basically, the plot genesis for the "Escape from ..." movies.

Do the Escapes have protagonists who know they're gonna die? I mostly remember the apocalyptic future bits, but it's the other part — what are we gonna do with the rest of our miserably short lives — that interests me the most about this seed.

Didn't see the second one, but the first had that element (in a fashion). Without the threat of death (two explosive devices, the size of pin heads implanted in Snake's neck) Snake would have turned the glider around and flown to Canada.

A simple, yet effective, protagonist driver.
