Save Betamax
In 1984 the Supreme Court ruled ó in essence ó that you can have a VCR, even though some people use VCRs to make illegal copies of other peoples' copyrighted materials. This is a decision that not only makes sense, but also extends logically to your right to own things like CD burners, Tivos, and iPods.
Corporate interests like film studios and music companies are currently trying to undermine this decision. If you have a VCR, CD burner, DVD burner, personal video recorder, or MP3 player ó and if you like them ó you should read more about this issue at the Save Betamax website.
Although Save Betamax's organized call-in day is over, it is very easy to e-mail your senators (locate them on the Senate website) to urge them to oppose the INDUCE Act and its legislative successors. So do that.

I just recycled my old broken betamax and about a hundred tapes. Doesn't have anything to do with this post, but thought it was interesting none-the-less.
