Roomba FAQs

By "Frequently Asked," of course, I more properly mean "Asked Once."

How does Abby like it?

Abby finds Roomba's activity and noisemaking highly suspicious, but she responds largely in the same way she responds to the upright vacuum cleaner: as an adventure sport. She runs near to it, and then runs away from it, then runs near to it, then runs away from it...

How does it do in corners?

Roomba is pretty clever about wedging itself into the corner as close as it can, and it has a spinning brush that coaxes dirt away from walls and furniture. I'd say it cleans corners at least as well as any other vacuum I've ever used (without getting down on my hands and knees to use the crevice tool, anyway).

Does it actually keep the carpet clean and have Roombas come down in price enough that cheapskates like me would buy them?

Most of our Roomba's work is done on hardwood floor, and it does an excellent job of pulling dust bunnies and dog hair up off of that. It does slightly less well on our area rugs, but still manages to pick up a lot and keep them looking clean.

I believe Stacey priced Roombas using Google's "Froogle" service, eventually ordering one from eCost.com. It looks like they're currently about $160 there.
