Ransomware: Meatbot Massacre

Meatbot Massacre is a PDF game distributed through an interesting model I've never seen before: Ransomware. Check the site out; Greg Stolze and Daniel Solis, the game's creators, have declared that if donations totaling $600 are received before September 1, they'll release the game for free download. Prior to that much money being received, no one gets the game. If not enough money is received by that date, the money that has been received goes to a homeless shelter and the game never comes out, ever.

I'm tempted to donate even though I'm not really interested in the game, just because the distribution model is so interesting and solves the problem of for-sale PDFs being reposted for free download in such an elegant way.

Isn't that GMT's model for printing some of their games? Except they basically take credit card #s and don't charge until they've got enough orders to afford to print the book.

Just a head's up. We're proud to announce that the ransom has been paid and Meatbot Massacre is now free to download and share. :)
