Praise for the Programmer
Last night jefftidball.com got hit with a bunch of comment spam from a new source, and Jay Allen's MT-Blacklist, the Movable Type plug-in that I installed a few weeks ago to deal with this problem, worked like a charm to get rid of the offending spammery with the bare minimum of fuss and muss.
This episode reminded me that I've been meaning to write something in praise of the legion of coders around the world who write programs, plugins, applets, and applications and make them available for free (or for tips) to anyone who cares to use them. MT-Blacklist is just one example; the whole back end of jefftidball.com ó from Movable Type to cgiComments (which still runs 1,000 Blank White Cards) to PollIt is free- or tip-ware, and jefftidball.com as it appears before you would be completely impossible without all these programmers' hard work.
So this one's for you, Coder Guys and Gals. Thanks for your hard work and generosity.
