Peter Hentges noted, in a recent LiveJournal entry, that I spent a great deal of a recent car ride with him coveting his iPod. Whis is true. Happily, it was one of my recent computer-related purchases, and Peter need no longer worry for the safety of his little friend.
The iPod I bought is not awesome only because I can carry 2,000 songs in my pocket (according to Apple's literature), but because inside the box, it came wrapped in one of those protective clear plastic wrappers, and printed on the outside of the plastic was "Don't Steal Music" — those exact words — in five languages. Rock on, Apple, for putting it right there where everyone has to read it.
Buy the CD, listen to the song. Borrow the CD from your friend, listen to the song. Borrow ripped MP3s from your friends, maybe. But download MP3s from five million of your closest friends via Internet? Methinks that stretches "fair use" a bit too far.
And while you're at it, don't steal software.
