Organized Crime in California
Browsing the reference stacks at the library a few weeks ago, I came across a California Department of Justice publication detailing organized crime in California. Later that day, I discovered that the most recent version was available online in PDF format.
The Organized Crime in California Annual Report to the California Legislature addresses Russian, Asian, and "traditional" (Italian-American) organized crime as well as street gangs, prison gangs, drug trafficking organizations, and outlaw motorcycle gangs. In addition to being one of the best research documents for modern crime fiction writing I have ever seen, it's a great de facto sourcebook for contemporary RPGs.
You can find the Organized Crime in California report (and a wide variety of other interesting documents), on the publications page of the Office of the Attorney General of California.
