OPERATION: HILLSIDE HAIRCUT

Yesterday saw Stacey and I continue our ongoing project to bring our brush-covered hillside into compliance with the various fire codes that govern it. This involves cutting down all the high grasses, trimming up all of the large shrubs, removing a lot of the other shrubs entirely, and thinning out all of the trees.

This job has not been done properly on our hillside in many years, so it's a lot of work. The thing that limits how much can be done on any given weekend is the capacity of our green bin — the one for organic matter, compost, and so forth. We've filled our bin to the very top for five or six weekends running (and filled our neighbor's bin when she hasn't needed it on a given weekend) and figure we're a little over half way done.
