New Hardware and Software Installation Day

Yesterday was New Software and Hardware Installation Day. I installed Final Draft 7, which had been sitting on my desk waiting to be installed for a couple weeks, an M-Audio MobilePre USB gizmo and associated software (which acts as an interface between musical instruments and computers — my electric guitar, say), which I bought at Guitar Center on Tuesday with birthday money, and updated Spamfire to the latest version, to make it stop annoying me with its constant reminders that a new version is available.

Installing software was such a pain back when you had to restart first, disable extensions, and pray that your new package didn't fight with something that was already in place. Mac OS X is so yummy, and I've become so used to the ease of installation, that I was actually put out when I discovered that I couldn't just plug-and-play (ha!) the MobilePre box.

I'm gearing up, I think, for the upgrade from Jaguar to Panther, but I'll confess, I'm scared of it for no reason at all.
