Iíve never missed a flight

Iíve never missed a flight before, but apparently thereís a first time for everything*. It seemed completely reasonable to arrive at the airport forty-five minutes before my flight was due to take off, but apparently thatís not enough for United at LAX. They informed me I was too late and had to rebook, which cost me $100. This was irritating but not debilitating, as they managed to find me flights that would put me in Columbus, my ultimate destination, before midnight.

Things improved when my flight from Los Angeles to Denver was overbooked and I managed to get a first-class upgrade and free round-trip flight for bumping back to a later flight to Denverówhich would still allow me to make my Denver-to-Columbus flight with plenty of time to spare. I wait in one airport instead of another airport and get a couple hundred dollars worth of free stuff. Sign me up any day of the week.

* I hope it does not turn out to be true that thereís a first time for everything. I would like not to experience a ëfirst timeí for getting hit by a car, for example. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
