It's the little indignities. Like buying the wrong size coffee filters. Because then you realize that for the next three months you'll be cutting them down to size, one a day. The little indignities only compound on the days when the wrong size coffee filters were "buy one get one free" and so you actually have six months of cutting down to size in front of you.
Any of you jefftidball.com readers have a coffee maker that uses #4 cone-style filters? I'll pay postage, which will probably be more than the filters cost (especially at two-for-the-price-of-one), but at least it will prevent the guilty conscience I'd feel if I threw them out. Also, it will help keep postal workers in jobs.
Actually, this would be a good time to heartily recommened the Melitta Dual Thermal Mug Coffeemaker I have at the office. Brews a cup (or two) at a time and then shuts off. No burner, because the coffee stays warm in its thermal mugs and you (and your optional friend) will be drinking it right away, anyway. This conveniently and efficiently avoids the small-office problem where the last inch at the bottom of the pot scorches all day because no one wants to drink it. The only real problem with having a Melitta Dual Thermal Mug Coffeemaker is that you will, eventually, buy the wrong damn size filters.
