It has been a while,

It has been a while, and there is much news:

I Quit Job; Take Another | Praise the Lord and pass the chips, I'm leaving Gold Circle Films. While it seemed like a clever idea at the time, my office assistant job at the production company had turned into a psyche-squishing gig where I worked far below my skills, experience, and education in exchange for meager pay, decent benefits, and the hope that I'd make those valuable contacts the career services people were always preachifying about. Not that my Gold Circle job wasn't 100% as advertised. I did, in fact, earn meager pay, enjoy decent benefits, and make valuable contacts. However, the squishing of my psyche and unrelated financial issues make it High Time to look for Something Better.

Ironically, I will now return to a gaming job to Make Money. Go on, laugh, but I will be making roughly double my ending salary at Atlas Games working for Decipher as the line developer for the Lord of the Rings RPG. I'm very excited, not least of which by the fact that their expectations are exceedingly concrete, which will enable me to continue on with the screenwriting completely uninterrupted.

An additional bonus of the new employment situation: We no longer need to pay a dogwalker every day, because I will be working an eminently civilized 11:30 to 7:30 (or so) schedule. I walk the dog when I leave at eleven, Stacey walks the dog when she returns home at 6:00, and everyone (especially the dog) is happy. I'm sure that Abby will miss brave and stalwart dogwalker Shay, but we'll have him come from time to time when one of us has somewhere else to be immediately before or after work.

Giant Robots Infest Condo; Eat Last of Peanut Butter | This is a blatant lie, and I am outraged.

Jeff and Stacey Visit St. Paul; Wedding Ensues | My good, good friend Jim Beecher got married last Saturday to Heather Richwalski, whose name I have almost certainly misspelled. It is clear to me that the Right Thing has happened here, and happened to the Right People.

As it turns out, Heather will be "submitting" to Jim for as long as they both shall live. Since Jim's end of the deal is strictly in providing "honor," the pre-wedding negotiations clearly skewed male.

Jim and Heather are off to Italy (pronounced "EYE-tal-ee," which is the home of "EYE-tal-yin" dressing). Stacey and I are, of course, jealous, but since causing jealousy is as much the point of taking a honeymoon as to be on a post-nuptual vacation, all is as it should be.

Dog Not Spied on Web Cam; Oh Well | We did not successfully view Abby on the Urban Dog web cam while we were gone. It is a sad day when such resources are expended in pursuit of such a marginal goals as viewing your dog on the Internet while you are out of town to absolutely no avail, but so it goes. We will try harder next time.
