A company called Information Unlimited is selling laser guns (scroll down to "Laser Ray Gun"). Today. Or, just buy the plans and build your own. From Wired's Gear Factor blog:
With a blasting power of 500 Joules, the Laser Ray Gun can fire 120 to 150 shots on a pair of AA batteries, burning holes in most materials.

It's only a matter fof time before someone burns up a billboard they don't like or sets the home or car of their ex on fire with one of these. There will be a push by police and fire organizations to regulate the sales of these guns. This brings up an interesting question: Will the NRA nuts try to protect the laser gun?

Wow, that the funniest, most poetic thing ever. For my money, you've gotta believe that they will.
That idea really, really makes me want to write a Boston Legal spec, and I have no use whatsoever for one of those.
