Installing Software is Really, Really Boring. (Want to Read About it?)

Today I'm installing software. What's that mean? That I've been looking at a lotta lotta progress bars.

Here's the installation laundry list I started with:

1) Run TechTool Pro.

2) Burn backup CDs.

3) Install Tiger.

4) Migrate from Entourage v.X to Mail.

5) Install Adobe CS2.

6) Migrate from Palm Desktop to Address Book and iCal.

Most of this has been a long-ass time coming. I'd been putting off upgrading to Tiger until I actually needed it (which has become the case with the new v330, which will not iSync without 10.4). Entourage, however, has been a pain in my butt for months since it stopped being able to save e-mail attachments without crashing; I've been meaning to switch back to Mail for quite some time. Palm Desktop stopped being convenient around the time I stopped carrying my Palm; I'm not a huge fan of Address Book or iCal, but I'm looking forward to the tight Spotlight integration. And CS2 is going to be very, very clearly preferable to running Quark 4 in Classic mode; going back in software time has been driving me batshit.

I started the laundry list at 11:00 this morning, and I'm currently looking at the progress bar for item #4. It's looking pretty unlikely that I'll be done by the end of the day. Ugh.
