In doing research for the
In doing research for the Pulp Cthulhu chapter I'm writing on the 1930s, I'm revisting both the utility and frustration of Internet research. While the web (and the online Encyclopedia Britannica in particular) can be great sources of overview information on a wide variety of topics, it can be infuriating to search for a particular bit of information and not be able to find it. Especially information that ought to be simplicity embodied to make available on the web. Case in point: I spent nearly a half hour looking for a few sample blue chip stocks to track through the course of the Great Depression. While roughly half the sites on the web seem to be in the business of providing real-time stock quotes, apparently they all throw that information away at the end of each business day.
