If It's Thursday, I Must Be Tired

So, here's the thing: Work has been crazy. Really cramps the blogging.

To make work-related matters crazier than normal, this week is Camp Tomo, when most of the company's remote employees journey to the home office in Los Angeles and we all work 16 hour days until they go home. (So, yeah, I realize that those of you who work in real computer games engage in scheduling madness of this nature for months at a time. None for me, thanks.)

As a minor proof of my tiredness, I offer the following, which actually transpired yesterday. (By which I mean the day before yesterday, as it has become Thursday recently.)

Before heading down to Subway to grab some lunch, I straightened up my desk. Squared the loose papers, threw away a couple errant post-its, put my pencil back in the mug of writing implements.

I went to Subway, bought a sandwich, and returned to the office to eat it at my desk while I caught up on some blog reading. (It's been weeks since I've read some of my regular blogs. Those of you who write them will forgive me, I hope and trust.) I finished my sandwich, did some light work, then a bit more whatever. When I stood up from my chair about an hour later, this is what I saw in the corner of my desk:

If you're having trouble making it out ó the phone-cam shot is admittedly smallish ó that's my mechanical pencil sitting in a half-full cup of coffee, next to the other coffee cup. You know, the one where I store my writing utensils. You know, when I'm not... like this.

Here's the great thing about work: I love my job. It's hard a lot of the time, and our timeline is aggressive (to say the least), but it's really easy to love it again in a finger-snap by reminding myself how much I love games, and love designing them. In fact, the only real downside of the work situation is that it sometimes seems like I'm dealing all my accumulated screenwriting aspirations a blow by dedicating so much time and mental energy to work. (Yeah, you read that right. Liking my job has produced guilt inside my back-asswards Midwestern brain. I have no excuse.)

So, anyway, blogging's been sporadic, 'cause I gave at the office.

Which may continue for a while.

Just so's all y'all know.

I hope you're able to take time and relax and spend time with the family. I'd hate to hear you've become the next ea_spouse, blowing up at the gaming industry.
