I am optimistic that we have finally escaped from our DSL nightmare. Covad seemed like a Godsend when we found them: They were the only outfit willing to provide high-speed access to our neighborhood. We had spotty service for about ten months, but then, at the beginning of September, we went down hard and stayed down. So we called them frequently, and they didn't do anything, and they made all manner of pleasant promises, and did not follow through on them, and did not return our phone calls, and sucked up big blocks of time that we will never get back. They heaped insult upon injury and tried to prevent us from discontinuing their service. However, the threat of getting lawyerly on their bad selves has finally borne fruit. They have credited us for the time during which they provided no service and have seen their way into not charging us to leave a contract under which they were not performing.
