Hey Ice Cream

Brent Crowe, a friend of mine since elementary school, has been living in Los Angeles longer than I have. His band, the Spectacles, recorded an album called Hey Ice Cream sometime last year. I bought a copy a few months ago, and it's been on frequent rotation in my car changer since I got it.

Now, I'm not so much a music critic that you should take seriously. See also my Coheed and Cambria critique that concerns itself entirely with the name of the album. With that caveat, I really like Hey Ice Cream. It reminds me vaguely of Bob Dylan, but you can understand what the hell Brent's singing, and the lyrics are deviously entertaining instead of pointlessly incomprehensible. (At least, I get the sense Dylan lyrics would be incomprehensible if I could understand then. But who can say?)

In any case, Hey Ice Cream isn't your friend's album that you recommend because it's your friend's album. It's your friend's album that you recommend because you like it. Follow the link, give the sample tracks a listen, and if it sounds like something you'd like then buy a copy.

(The album link is to CD Baby, an online music retailer with a five-star customer experience. Word on the street is that they also give the artists a really honest cut of the take. Two thumbs up to them.)

I second the praise for Hey Ice Cream. And yeah, I'm a long time friend of Brent's (since junior high) but even if I weren't I'd still dig the disc.

As long as we're pluggin' our friends cd's, check out this all percussion cd my friend Ryan put together a couple years ago, also available at CD baby. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/inselman

And all he does is rave about CD baby, which you can read here. www.inselman.com So yeah, CD baby is a good thing.

I like all but two tracks on this disk, and it has nothing to do with the fact I helped edit the liner notes.
