Hero in 25 Words or Less

Crafty narrative, yes. Important and timeless theme, yes. And intricate flying fights, yes. But these last ó porn-like ó all eventually blur to sameness. Grade: Bñ

I confess to a severe weakness for visually intriguing films. And for unreliable narrators.

I disagree that the flying fights blurred into sameness. I point as example to the fight between Flying Snow and Moon (Maggie Cheung and Zhang Ziyi). Very different from the other fights both in style and in the way it was shot. I think if feel that the fights were all too similar that your eye is, perhaps, not discerning enough.

I felt more like things were too much the same within individual fights, rather than among them. The fight you cite is actually a good example that Jeremy brought up while we were on our way out of the theater. After Flying Snow stirs up a whirlwind of leaves against Moon once or twice, it's not all that exciting to see her do it some more. That's what I intended to communicate by talking about "blurring to sameness."

I will absolutely grant that my eye is not particularly discerning in this genre, though.
