GenCon SoCal
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were spent at GenCon SoCal, a new games convention in Anaheim. Stacey came on Saturday and Sunday, as well as others from our local gaming group. I had a great time, and hope the show was a financial success so it continues on in future years.
I saw lots of gamesfolk from across the country, including Nicole Lindroos, Chris Pramas, Ken Hite, and Michelle Nephew, among others. The highlight of the convention had to be playing in the Risk 2210 tournament and placing fourth! I won a completely awesome laser-etched Risk 2210 gameboard, a copy of the game, a copy of the upcoming expansion, and a Risk 2210 Space Commander patch. You've heard it from me before, but I must re-iterate what an outstanding game it is.
Going into the last turn of the final game I fully expected to win the game and place first, by the way. Although I can identify two minor-to-middling misjudgements I made, I can honestly say I was completely hosed by the dice in the last turn. In one series of battles, for example, I managed to kill only one enemy unit while losing thirteen of my own.
All in all, a great convention. Next year, you should come.
