Donnie Darko: The Director's Cut in 25 Words or Less
Smart, dramatic, open-ended, thought-provoking, and so substantially non-Hollywood as to make you wonder how the hell this made it through development. Highly recommended. Grade: Ań
I should note that I have not seen the original (2001) cut of this film; these are my impressions of the Director's Cut only.

I haven't seen the director's cut, but it was not long ago that we got the original cut from Netflix. I liked it so much I watched it twice, which is pretty near unheard of for me and movies.
My favorite scene in the whole movie is the montage through the school with Tears for Fears ("Head Over Heels") as the soundtrack. Mainly because it seems to emotionally to me to capture the emotional texture of the whole movie.
I've seen both the director's cut (once) and the original theatrical release (probably 3-4 times). They are VERY different movies. The director's cut I think makes the director's vision of the story much more clear (almost hit-you-over-the-head blunt), but the original, while more ambiguous, is a better movie. Maybe because it is more ambiguous.
Once tainted with the director's cut though, I'm not sure it's possible to view the original in the same light.
