Cold Mountain in 25 Words or Less
Crisply three-dimensional characterizations across the board, great use of music, brilliant (seriously, brilliant) humor in drama. Entirely outstanding—a best film contender. Grade: A
Stacey and I saw Cold Mountain last night at the Directors Guild. Although I suppose it should not be surprising, the DGA's theater was oustanding both architecturally (recalling movie palaces auditoriums but without their excess or distraction) and as a venue for film-watching.
After the screening, the Q&A with director Anthony Minghella was a real treat, truly delightful. He was literate, thoughtful, and well-spoken, responding earnestly even to questions that did not seem to merit it. I frequently thought how wonderful it would be to possess half of his apparent intellectual life.
