Blue in the Face

Decipher has announced that they plan to release The Lord of the Rings RPG supplements again, beginning in April with Paths of the Wise: The Guide to Magicians and Loremasters. Presumably other titles I developed, including Helm's Deep and Fields of Battle: The Guide to Barbarians and Warriors, will follow on the "every eight weeks" plan.

This would be a fine time for jefftidball.com medical advisor Jeff Tidball (that's me! hi, mom!) to warn you that holding your breath contingent upon anything anyone promises you actually happening can be hazardous to your health if, for example, the contingent event fails to occur.

This is probably a pointless warning in this specific instance; anyone inclined to hold their breath pending the release of LotR RPG supplements probably died the first time said releases didn't happen. And anyone who survived the first episode probably died after the second (and subsequent? I've lost track) promised release dates came and went.

Not that I wouldn't love to see all the books I worked on come out. They're pretty good. And not that I've got anything against Decipher. They treated me reasonably well. But I hope we've all stopped believing they'd stop hitting us if we just gave them one more chance.

I must admit I found that announcement curious.

They can change. You just don't understand them. Besides, they're a good father.

Hey, they've paid me off through the "kill fee" portion for my contributions, so anything more would be gravy (or is that icing? or gravy icing?).

I don't think it was actually a kill fee, though. Had it been, we could have done something with the material rather than stare at it as it sat on the hard drive.

However, my recent comms with Decipher indicate that they will indeed be paying freelancers for work that gets published this year.

So, it's not quite dead yet! It's feeling bettah!
