Banzai!

Last night I caught an episode of Banzai, on Comedy Central, for the first time. It's a game show in the Japanese style, where every preposterous imaginable thing is done by Real Live Humans.

Just when I was pretty sure that human dignity couldn't take another hit (witness, for example, The Littlest Groom), we have the opportunity to watch human dignity become subject to Mortal Kombat grade flurries of blows. And it's hi-freakin-larious.

Last night, we saw firemen shoot high-pressure hoses at each other, we saw the guy who played Willis on Diff'rent Strokes race a dog through a pool to fetch a stick, we saw a woman named Summer stuff as many one-dollar bills into her mouth in a minute as she could — and every one she crammed in was hers to keep!

It defies description, this show, and the aspect where they invite you to bet on the outcomes of the contests cries out for community viewing, with a Jameson-style Oscar-night real-time rankings projection.
