A History of Violence in 25 Words or Less
Great scope. Oddly, foreknowledge of the twist improved my opinion. Was I taken in if I thought Viggo's performance was nuanced and effective? Grade: A–

Have you only seen this once? I loved it the first time I saw it, you just don't see movies with this pacing and character development all that often. You aren't quite sure if he's the bad guy or not pretty much the whole way through. But then, I watched it again on HBO and think that I could have acted Viggo's part. Just put on a pouty face and try not to smile the whole movie. The scene where what's his nuts confronts him in the diner the first time just seemed like really bad acting to me the second time I watched it. Like I said, I think I could have acted it. Or maybe that's the genius, showing that he was a really bad actor at that point and not fully able to pull off the ruse. Yeah, I'm sure that's what the director intended.
Yes, I've only seen it once, but had the beans spilled in some review or another long before I actually saw it.
Your observation about the acting is what I was thinking. Like I said, I thought it seemed pretty nuanced on first viewing, but wondered if I was projecting that myself.
Me, my wife, my friend and everyone in the theater with us hated the holy fuck out of this movie. We, all of us, walked out shaking our heads and making the, "What the fuck?" face.
